March12, 2009

The Graduate Society Foundation held an event to celebrate the release of the Farsi translation of Elie Wiesel's Night on March 12, 2009 at the Iranian American Jewish Federation.  Night is the first book by Professor Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize recipient.  This book, which is about his devastating memories of the Auschwitz death camps, has been translated to Farsi by Mrs. Nina Ostovari.

Over 450 Iranians gathered to hear a special message from Mr. Wiesel in a addition to a speech by Mrs. Ostovari.  They listened carefully to Mrs. Shirindokht Daghighian, the copy editor, Mr. Ghaffour Mirzaee, famous researcher, and Mr. Jahangir Sedaghatfar, our great poet, as well.  They then watched a documentary about Professor Wiesel's heartbreaking return to Auschwitz.

Before and after the program, the following books were available for purchase: Three volumes of Padyavand, by Professor Amnon Netzer of blessed memory, Contemporary Judaism in the Second House of Bondage, in both Farsi and English, by Dr. Houshang Ebrami of blessed memory, Tasting the Chosen, a collection of poems by Mr. Jahangir Sedaghatfar, A Trumpet in the Wadi by Sami Michael, Of a World that is No More by Israel Singer, and of course Night.  All of these books were published by the Graduate Society Foundation.

Mrs. Ostovar signed copies of the book for those guests that were interested.

The cover of the book was designed by Mr. Jacob Abir.
